Inventory and Collection Monitoring

Inventory and Collection Monitoring

The library ensures that all materials are accounted for, properly shelved, and maintained in good condition through systematic monitoring activities.

Key Activities Include:

  • Shelf Reading: Staff regularly check shelves to ensure items are in the correct order (e.g., by call number) and re-shelve any misplaced materials.
  • Inventory Checks: Periodic audits verify the physical presence of items listed in the catalog. Missing or unaccounted-for materials are flagged for follow-up.
  • Damage and Wear Monitoring: Worn or damaged items are identified and either repaired, replaced, or withdrawn from circulation.
  • Barcode/RFID Scanning: Barcode and RFID tools are used to track items quickly and accurately during inventory.
  • Reporting: Inventory reports help identify lost, overdue, or non-circulating items and inform collection development and weeding decisions.
  • Security Control: Staff monitor anti-theft systems to ensure materials are not removed without proper check-out.
