Today marks the 150th anniversary of the National Press of Azerbaijan.

The newspaper “Əkinçi”, launched on July 22, 1875, by the initiative of Hasan bey Zardabi, laid the foundation for the history of the Azerbaijani national press.

Promoting the ideals of enlightenment, this publication paved the way for the emergence of newspapers and journals such as “Ziya” (1879), “Kəşkül” (1880), “Kaspi” (1880–1890), “Şərqi-Rus” (1903), “Həyat” (1905), “Molla Nəsrəddin” (1906), “Füyuzat” (1906–1907), “İşıq” (1911–1912), “Açıq Söz” (1915), and “Azərbaycan” (1918) in the years that followed.

These press examples played an invaluable role in shaping national consciousness, advancing public enlightenment, and fostering intellectual discourse.
